Turning pups into muster dogs
To celebrate the 5th year of the Queensland Simmental Bull Sale, sale vendors invite previous buyers and underbidders to celebrate this milestone by joining them at the Great Western Hotel, Rockhampton at 5pm on Sunday 27 July (following the bull walk) for drinks, dinner and an evening of entertainment
Starting off at 5:30pm Frank Finger of Hillview Training “Turning pups into mustering dogs” (as seen on series one of ABC Muster Dogs) will provide a demonstration of these incredible dogs in action working cattle right at the Great Western bull riding ring in Rockhampton. Unknown to many, Frank and his family have been breeding Brahman cross cattle at “Hillview”, Clermont where they cross a high-grade Brahman herd with Simmental to meet JBS and Teys specifications for the JapOx market. Frank and his family have also had great success at the Clermont Show and Clermont Beef Expo where they have achieved grand champion pen seven times in the last eleven years. Recent results included a pen of Simmental cross bullocks that sold for 400c/kg weighing 767kg for a return of $3070 per head.
Frank and his family continue to be wonderful supporters of the Brahman, Simmental and Droughtmaster breeds.
Frank was an early adopter of the working dog concept after attending a training course in 1996. Over the next twenty-five years he went on to host another 43 working dog and stock handling schools with various trainers. Frank and his Kelpie Annie have appeared at events as far away as Tasmania with people frequently amazed at how Hillview trains their dogs through the use of friendship and not fear.
Hillview Training now delivers regular working dog and stock handling schools for cattle producers and dog owners on property at Hillview (Clermont).
